Spent a couple of days in northern minnesota, and as always, I used the opportunity to get out an make some images. The landscape of this part of the state is vast,open and dominated by farmland. Getting Ready for Flow-a-Whirl Show

Stuff like this happens when you don’t have your own darkroom. Thankfully, Mpls Photo Center has a very decent one that I have utilized for past few weeks. Post-proccessing such as selenium toning etc, had to be improvised. Show called Flow-a-Whirl at the Flow Art Gallery in north Minneapolis opens in May. Should be fun.

William Eggleston; Untitled

Can’t get away from this guy. Eggleston has inspired armies of photographers with his snapshot-approach to photography. Not sure what suprises me the most, the fact that he took pictures of such completely banal subjects, or that I continue to be puzzled by his images.

Another Book-project done

This project has been long in the making, and I am glad that I can finally call it done. I photographed this with an analog point-and-shoot camera that went out of style fifteen years ago with film that was, should I say, not exactly Kodachrome-quality. It was all part of a deliberate attempt not be a photographer, which was harder than I thought. I all harkens back to my interest in the so called “snap-shot esthetic”

The British art historian and host of the BBC series “The Power of Art” ,Simon Schama has written one of the most poignant words about the function of art that I have ever read. For some reason I felt like putting it on this blog

-Art is the enemy of the routine, the mechanical and the humrum. It stops us in our tracks with a high voltage of disturbance. It reminds us what humanity can do beyond the daily grind. It takes us places we had never dreamed of going, it makes us look again at things we had taken for granted.

It really isn’t more complicated than that

Just got word that my black & white landscapes has been accepted into the Flow Art Space Gallery in Minneapolis, MN. The show is called ”Flow Art-A-Whirl Show”. I am very pleased, and it means that I have to get into the darkroom very soon. Something I am equally exited about. There is just too much photoshop in this digital world, and I miss the “wonderful” smell of chemicals.
